Spring is coming up, and it's the perfect time to start getting rid of all that unused clutter in your home! Bin There Dump That of WNY can help you to start cleaning out clutter and start the new season off with a freshly cleaned and organized home!

Before getting started, it is important to plan ahead and set goals for your spring cleaning. This will allow you to stay the most organized and to ensure that your home comes out in top shape.

Make a Schedule

Trying to clean out your entire home in a day or two can be overwhelming. When facing the large task of getting rid of all the unused clutter, it can seem like a lot. That is why we recommend breaking it up by week. Breaking it up in this way will allow you to not have to cram it into a short time period and can save you a lot of stress. Check out our Spring Cleaning Schedule for how we recommend breaking up your household cleanout in Niagara Falls, Tonawanda, Buffalo, or Lockport.

Set Goals

Before you start, sit down and really think about your goals for cleaning out your home. You should start with smaller goals, like cleaning out your basement. You should also think about your motivation for these goals. For example, cleaning out clutter in the garage may make it easier to access your storage. It will be much easier to tackle your entire home when you break up your cleanout into rooms and goals for each room.

Clutter-Free, Stress-Free

Organization in your home is a great way to relieve your everyday stress. Your home should be the place where you come to relax after a long day at work or school. A home that is disorganized or filled with clutter can add unnecessary stress to your life.

In order to have an organized home it is essential to make sure that any unused clutter is cleaned out. You don’t want to waste your time and energy looking for things that you need, rummaging through items that you don’t need. Another goal idea is to clean out dishes in your kitchen cabinets enough to easily access dishes you use day to day. If you have dishes that are for special occasion, you can consider storing them somewhere else in the home, allowing for easy access to everyday dishes in the kitchen. This will allow you to stay organized without the clutter of extra dishes.

Now that you know the benefits of cleaning out clutter in your home, here are some of our tips to get the job done.

Consider What You Really Need

It can be hard to let go of items in your home even though you may never use them or don’t need them. That is why when you are spring cleaning, you need to seriously consider the reasons why you want to save things. Does the item have deep sentimental value? Is it something that you have used in the last year? Is it something that is essential to your routine in your home? If not, toss it.

Do you have items in your home that you plan on saving for a future project, but you’ve been putting off the project for a substantial amount of time? Consider the project you planned to use this item for and set a strict date for when you want to complete it. Be reasonable with yourself, and ask yourself: “Am I really going to complete this project before my deadline?” If yes, then start now! If no, get rid of the item.

Let Things Go

Let go of the fear that you need to hold on to every single item in your home. It is likely that there are way more items in your home than you actually need. Most of the time, when you think about those “just in case” items that you save, the reality is that you haven’t used them in years. Therefore, it may be a good idea to get rid of them. If there ever is a rainy day where you need to use an obscure item, it’s okay to borrow it from someone else.

Another tip is to think about the last time you used the item. Can you remember the last time you used it? If so, have you used it in the last year? If not, it is probably a good idea to get rid of it.

Even with items that you may use every once in a while, seriously stop and consider if it is worth the space that it takes up in your home. Are there alternative items that you plan on keeping that can be used instead? Is the use that this item brings to you necessary, or can it be thrown away? Consider these questions and keep in mind: a clutter-free home is a stress-free home.

Organize

When you are going through each room in your home, organize items by section. You can make three different piles to help you better organize what you’re going to do with each item: one pile for keep, one for throw away, and one for storage. This will be able to keep everything organized and know exactly how much you are getting rid of before you get rid of it. It will also allow you to go back through once you are done and consider how much you are getting rid of. Ask yourself questions like: “Are there things that I put in the storage or keep piles that I don’t really need?”
